Challenge

During my children's toy design class at OCAD, we were given the opportunity to create and develop any type of toy of our choosing throughout the later half of our term.

Goal

To create a series of collectible toys inspired by modular synths. Collect them, mix and match parts and most importantly, allows you to create sonic landscapes by simply playing with them.

Solution

The soundborg prototype contains potentiometers within each joint, so instead of turning a knob to alter sound parameters, simply posing the robot in different ways will change tonal frequencies, tempo of the sequence, etc.
Although not every desired function was realized for this prototype, it contains a theramin (controlled via antenea) and the LEDs for the mouth illuminate when the sound plays out.
