Obsidian Shelf

Challenge
In my Furniture Design course we were challenged to create a piece inspired by nature. Growing up in a mining town I instantly thought of various rocks and geodes and how they can be everything from amazing to unremarkable.
Goal
To create a geology inspired piece with a practical application. This shelf is perfect for vinyl collectors that are tired of digging through their shelves and crates every time they want to play an album. Each of the 5 slots can hold 2-3 records, making it easy to setup a playlist of sorts or to have your most played records ready to go anytime.
Solution
My first design that utilizes a CNC machine enabled me to create a unique piece that emulates the jagged lines and geometry of spider web obsidian all while serving its desired function.
